Professionally cleaned living room after a cleaning session

Through a cleaning company you pay €25 to €40 per hour in Noord-Brabant; through a platform €15 to €18. We explain where that gap comes from, which costs people forget, and when a fixed package works out cheaper.

What is a normal hourly rate in 2026?

Anyone looking for a home cleaner in Noord-Brabant in 2026 quickly runs into two very different prices. Through a cleaning company you usually pay between €25 and €40 per hour including VAT, with a regional median of roughly €34 per hour. Through an online platform or a private helper you see rates of €15 to €18 per hour.

A gap of more than double naturally raises questions. The answer rarely lies in the cleaning itself, but in everything around it: insurance, cover during illness or holidays, materials and machines, quality control, and an invoice your bookkeeping can actually process. At SchoonGeregeld our consumer rate is €31.50 per hour — deliberately below the regional median, with everything included.

When comparing, always check whether a quoted rate includes or excludes VAT. Business cleaning is almost always quoted excluding VAT; quotes to consumers should include it. A rate of €30 excluding VAT is not €30 for a household.

What drives the price per hour?

No two homes are the same, and that shows up in the quote. These factors weigh most heavily when a cleaning company sets an hourly rate or a fixed price.

  • Frequency — weekly cleaning is almost always better value per hour than a one-off session, because the home stays less soiled and scheduling becomes more efficient.
  • Floor area and layout — lots of small rooms, staircases, corners and window frames take more time than one large open living room of the same size.
  • Type of work — routine maintenance is faster than deep cleaning, descaling, scrubbing ovens or an end-of-tenancy clean after a move.
  • Travel distance — the same rates apply inside the Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda triangle; well outside the region a call-out surcharge may apply.
  • Materials and machines — are products, vacuum and microfibre cloths brought along, or do you have to supply them?
  • Pets and renovations — pet hair and construction dust structurally add time to every session.

Cleaning company, platform or private helper?

The lowest hourly rate rarely produces the lowest final bill. A private helper at €16 per hour who needs two hours longer than a trained professional ends up costing more — and if something is damaged or someone is injured, you carry the risk.

  • Cleaning company (€25–40 per hour): insured, cover during illness or holidays, agreed quality standards and a proper invoice.
  • Platform helper (€15–18 per hour): the lowest price, but you arrange scheduling, materials and replacements yourself.
  • Private helper through word of mouth: often without insurance and without an invoice; in case of damage or a workplace accident the client is liable.

The costs you do not see in the hourly rate

An hourly rate tells at most half the story. Ask explicitly about the points below in every quote, so you compare like with like.

  • VAT rate — cleaning work inside a home in the Netherlands is generally taxed at the reduced 9% rate, while cars, offices and exterior work generally fall under 21%. The exact treatment depends on the situation, so always ask or check with the Dutch tax authority.
  • Minimum booking — many companies charge for at least two to three hours per visit.
  • Call-out and parking costs, especially in city centres with paid parking.
  • Material costs that appear as a separate line on the invoice.
  • Cancellation terms — how many hours in advance can you reschedule or cancel free of charge?
  • Surcharges for evenings, Saturdays and public holidays.

When is a package cheaper than loose hours?

With an hourly rate you pay for time; with a package you pay for a result. The second feels calmer once you know exactly what needs to happen and do not want to watch the clock.

Our Basic package costs €79 and covers a session of up to 2.5 hours. Worked back, that is about €31.60 per hour: comparable to our loose rate of €31.50, but with a fixed price and a fixed task list. The Premium package costs €125 for up to 4 hours — just over €31 per hour — and is meant for homes that need a more thorough session.

The real gain is certainty. If the session runs slightly over within the agreed scope, the price does not change. With loose hours it can. For one-off jobs with a clear end point — a move, a spring clean, or handover after a renovation — a package or a per-square-metre price is almost always the calmer choice.

Unsure between hours and a package? Look at how predictable the work is. Weekly maintenance in a home you know well bills perfectly well by the hour. Anything one-off and intensive is better agreed in advance.
